Goddess
As I was thinking on the days of old,
I thought of gods and goddesses from then,
Immortal deities wrought of purest gold,
Whose shining faces passed those of mere men.
I thought of Zeus, the mightiest of all,
Whose scorching bolts are forged of purest light.
Athena, goddess wise with stature tall,
Whose strategies put armies to flight.
And Venus, beautiful beyond compare,
Whose husband, Vulcan, was so true.
And Mercury, who treads upon the air,
Poseidon, lord of all the oceans blue.
But those great figures of heaven and earth
Cannot compare to my true love’s great worth.
Matchless
What metaphor can represent your worth?
What simile is like enough to praise?
There is no way in heaven or on earth
There is no verse that’s worthy of your praise.
You lift me up whenever I am down,
Your smile brings happiness and love.
There is no one who more deserves the crown
That is reserved for archangels above.
I can’t believe I could be O so blessed
To wind up with so great a lifelong friend
And when I’m laid to my eternal rest,
I know you’re with me past the bitter end.
Beloved, you are mine and mine alone,
And my whole life forever is your own.
